SKINCARE IN OUR FORTIES AND BEYOND MADE SIMPLE

As we age, our skin undergoes many changes, and it’s important to adapt our skincare routine to address these changes. Whilst the beauty industry will attempt to overwhelm you with information and products, here’s what I know to be true – simple, to the point and easily actionable, here are a few tips for looking after your skin in your forties and beyond: (follow my on instagram HERE to see my recommendations and reviews on a daily basis).

Use a gentle cleanser: As we age, our skin becomes more sensitive and prone to irritation. It’s important to choose a gentle cleanser that won’t strip the skin of its natural oils. Avoid using harsh, abrasive cleansers and opt for a product that is formulated for sensitive skin.

Moisturise regularly: As we get older, our skin becomes less able to retain moisture, which can lead to dryness and fine lines. It’s important to moisturize regularly to keep the skin hydrated and plump. Look for a moisturizer that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which can help to lock in moisture and help maintain the skin barrier.

Use sunscreen: Sun exposure can lead to premature aging, so it’s important to use sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days. Look for a product that offers broad-spectrum protection and has an SPF of at least 30.

Exfoliate gently: Exfoliating can help to remove dead skin cells and improve the texture of the skin, but it’s important to do it gently. Avoid using harsh, grainy exfoliants and opt for a product that contains gentle, natural ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids.

Get plenty of sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for healthy skin, as it allows the body to repair and regenerate. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to give your skin the rest it needs.

Eat a healthy diet: A healthy diet can benefit your skin in many ways. Foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts, can help to protect the skin from environmental stressors and promote a healthy, youthful appearance.

Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water is important for overall health, and it can also help to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day to help keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

Use a facial oil: Facial oils can be especially beneficial for mature skin, as they can help to nourish and moisturize the skin without feeling heavy or greasy. Look for oils that contain antioxidants and fatty acids to help protect and strengthen the skin.

Use a facial serum: Serums are lightweight, concentrated products that can be used to target specific skin concerns. Look for serums that contain ingredients like retinol or vitamin C, which can help to improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone, and uneven texture.

Be consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to skincare. Make sure to follow your skincare routine regularly and use products that are formulated for your skin type to get the best results.

By following these simple tips and adapting your skincare routine to suit your changing skin, you can help to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful in your forties and beyond.

I hope this has been useful, if nothing else, a reminder of what you already know 🙂

xx
