Those of you beauties who were following my #ALipADay shenanigans last year when I wore a different lipstick every day for 365 days (yes, sir, I really did – this is what the Daily Mail said when I got to six months!) will know how much I loved the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. Dolce Vita was one of my all time faves while Pop Life and Red Square are always in and out of my makeup bag. But at £18 a pop, it’s hard to feed an addiction such as this.
So I was super-excited to discover these Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils almost-the-same, as-near-as-dammit dupes from Maybelline at just £4.99 each! I spent ages in Boots trying to pin it down to just three shades, but I know I’ll be heading back for more very soon.
Highly pigmented, lip-defining, creamy yet long-lasting, I think I almost prefer these to the NARS ones for feeling less dry on the lips. And at less than a fiver each, I can afford to buy one in each colour!
From top to bottom, I have the intense redness of Light It Up, the classic of Nude Perfection and the utterly wearable Keep it Classy – a definite contender for the my-lips-but-better award!

I’m a huge fan of these, they’re such a beautiful formula and the shade selection is lovely too. They’re definitely highly comparable to the Nars alternatives indeed!

These look great, but do they leave the dreaded ghastly white line along the inside of your lips after wearing them for a couple of hours? Very interested to know…

I did #100lippydays and god knows how you managed a whole year! I’m a NARS velvet matt fan and have Red Square & Dolce Vita too! Promise I’m not a lip stalker. I spotted those Maybelline recently and they really are a dupe though the colours I want are never in stock.

I had the same problem with the colours – I ended up getting the lady in Boots going the stock room to check for me (twice!) – she probably runs away when she sees me coming into the store these days!
