Get ready to do a little celebratory dance! Makeup and beauty addicts around the UK, your dreams have come true, for tomorrow, Makeup Forever finally reaches our shores. Hallelujah! I’ll no longer need to spend at least a couple hours of every holiday lurking around the Sephora aisles as I peruse the Makeup Forever counters to find what’s new and worth buying. Many trips and shopping sprees have resulted in a good selection of the brand finding its way over to my dressing table and makeup bags. So before you go spending your pennies, here’s are my thoughts on what’s worth the splurge, and what’s not.
Large Foundation Brush 108 – Well, what can I say about this brilliant brush that I haven’t already said in this post here? Go ahead and click through to read that post to find out why this brush is the mother of all foundation brushes: big, flat and rounded, wide enough to cover large areas quickly, yet precise enough to blend out your concealer. If this doesn’t come over the pond in the UK edit, definitely order it online at Sephora.com here.
HD Foundation – This has fast become one of the foundations I reach for on a very regular basis. No matter the state of my skin, it never fails to deliver beautiful, radiant, even-toned skin. The velvety finish leaves skin just the right side of dewy – neither shiny nor matte flat, with no need to powder unless you really want to, and it gives a beautiful medium-to-full coverage while still leaving skin looking like skin. The colour range is so impressive too, (fab for us darker skinned gals), so there’s no excuse for wearing the wrong shade any more. What can I say? 10/10 every time.
HD Invisible Cover Concealer – Creamier than NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer, I love the illuminating effect – black bags are eliminated – but it’s not as matte as the foundation, so I’ll make sure to set it with a setting with a powder, which brings me to….
HD MicroFinish Powder – can you tell I’m a fan of the whole HD range? Of all the Finishing Powders I’ve ever tried, this is in my top three. Super finely milled, utterly colourless, it doesn’t leave a white-ish trace on the skin, except for a beautiful velvety finish.
Aqua Matic Waterproof Glide-On Eye Shadow Sticks – For a quick and easy eye look, these are hard to beat. They go on creamy, easy to blend, and once they’re on, they’re there to stay. They can be built up from a light wash of colour to a much more dramatic impactful burst of colour. Of the three shades shown, only the dark brown is a matte colour; the other two are gloriously, shimmeringly metallic.
Smoky Extravagant Mascara – Although I only have a sample of this mascara, it’s a powerhouse for your lashes. Lengthening, curling and very black, it certainly delivers drama to your lash line. It’s not the most thickening of mascaras in my collection, but it defines and lengthens beautifully without clumping.
Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencils – Arguably the stars of the show, second in place only to the HD range, I always stock up on these indispensable lip liners whenever I find myself in a Sephora. Creamy to apply, they are seriously budge-proof, making them a great base for lipsticks to adhere to when worn all over the lips under lipsticks. They’re great worn on their own in place of a lipstick too!
Lipsticks – While I have no complaints about the lipsticks – they’re creamy, pigmented, very comfortable on the skin – if there’s one place I would suggest saving your pennies it would be here.
The range comes to Debenhams (and Debenhams.com) on May 19th, but remember, for any bits that aren’t available here in the UK, there’s always the US Sephora site, (which by the way, ships to the UK – yay!) Prices start at £13 for the Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner and go up to £31 for the Aqua Brow Kit (the brushes are a bit more of a splurge)!
What will you treat yourself to?
