It’s been a long time coming. My poor friends in real life have heard my moans about my hair for a while, complaining that I’m bored of it and want a visible change. Of course, they know what I’m like and let it all go in one ear and out the other, knowing full well that I’d more than likely go into the salon with big plans and come out looking pretty much the same as before, just groomed.
But this time it was different. I had the talented Lucy Holbrook on my side. Recently moved to the very glamorous Larry King Salon in South Kensington, Lucy was previously the only person that I’d let colour my hair anything more than a simple roots touch up. She’d done the most incredible ombre for me five years ago that didn’t ruin the condition or health of my hair and the colour was just perfect. So for a real change, I knew in my heart of hearts that if I was going to up my hair colour game, Lucy was the one to go to.
We went for a beautiful balayage while keeping my roots as close to my natural colour, to ensure that it was as low-maintenance as possible. Before we could do anything, of course, I had to have my roots touched up (damn you greys!), washed out and rough dried, then the magic began. Even though I was a little nervous, Lucy and the lovely Katy kept me relaxed throughout. I’m guessing by now everyone knows what balayage is so I think the best thing is to make this post all about the photos and the amazing results. (There will be a vlog up on my YouTube channel very soon including my balayage experience in which Lucy explains loads more about balayage, so make sure to subscribe to my channel so that you don’t miss that).
I then had my hair cut and blow dried by the lovely Lilli Bridger. We went shorter and blunter than it’s been for a while, and layers cut around the front to really frame the face. I’m obsessed! Both with my colour and with my new cut.
I’m definitely one of those people that tells the hairdresser in minute detail what I want, leaving them little or no leeway, but this time, I decided I would keep an open mind and go with whatever was suggested, both for cut and colour. Sometimes, you just have to leave your fears at door and trust the experts and I’m so glad I did!
My lovely new hair!
If you’re thinking of changing up your hair, I’d really recommend you make sure you go to someone you trust. Although I was nervous, it was “nervous excited”, not “nervous scared” as I knew I was in good hands.

Depending on the light conditions and how I style it, my hair can look slightly lighter or darker, which I love!
Oh and I even got to meet the man himself, the very lovely Larry King.
