Let’s first address the obvious… this post was patently supposed to go up yesterday. But as any working mother will tell you, life (and three children on half term holidays) sometimes have a way of obstructing the best laid plans. So here I am, typing away on Tuesday evening, when I really should be putting my feet up and resting up after a gruelling day yesterday (if you saw my instagram stories feed today you’ll know I took a nasty tumble down the stairs yesterday but still, for some stupid reason, I decided it would be a good idea to walk the four miles there and back to a meeting). So I’m feeling a little delicate today, especially after this morning’s testing workout.
So now that we have that out of the way…
It was all going so well. Up until the winter, I was into a good routine, with a healthy eating plan and consistent and regular workouts at the gym. But then November hit. What with my wedding anniversary and husband’s birthday, (watch our weeekend in Paris HERE), followed by Christmas and New Year festivities, not to mention three children’s birthdays and my own, all within four months, staying on track just didn’t happen. And I’m know I’m not alone in this. By mid-February, most people’s healthy New Year resolutions have waned, the gym membership is already gathering dust and the colourful shopping basket full of fruit and veg that summed up January has now been replaced with the odd pizza, packets of crisps and Chinese takeaway.
Somehow or other, (mostly with the welcome encouragement from my son and husband), I’ve managed to keep going towards my goals throughout January, into February and hopefully beyond, so I thought I’d share a few of the things keeping me motivated.
First off, new gym kit. Call me shallow, but spending money on new gym kit just forces to me to make the most of it and get my butt into the gym. You can see my most recent additions to my workout wardrobe HERE and there’s a few new purchases from Gibson Girl that I’ll be showing you soon too, so stay tuned to my YouTube channel HERE and make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already so you don’t miss it.
Secondly, new tech. My husband knew I was prioritising my health and fitness goals for 2017 above and beyond anything else, so he did the decent thing and bought me the presents I need. First off, the new FitBit Charge 2, to monitor my daily activity levels, steps, etc and I’m obsessed with it. As in, totally obsessed. Just seeing the numbers stack up is so motivating to me and keeps my moving far more than I would otherwise. Secondly, the Activ8rlives Body Analyser. Much more than the existing weighing scale that we have in my bathroom that measures weight and body fat percentage, this new all-singing, all-dancing piece of kit measures BMI, BMR, visceral fat, muscle mass, bone mass, water percentage… you name it, it does it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it even cooks us dinner and washes up! Every morning, as soon as I get up, I step onto it, and let it analyze me, reading and recording the results on my phone via the app. To be honest, I’m not too bothered about the weight on the scales in terms of kg; I’m focused on losing body fat. So although I’m over the moon about having lost 4kg since January, I’m actually way more excited to have lost 2.7% body fat. My overall weight change will be very slow, as I exchange fat for muscle, but I can already feel my clothes are fitting better and I can get into a slightly smaller pair of jeans, so I know it’s all going in the right direction.
I had loads more I wanted to say in terms of how to stay motivated, but I think I’ll save that for another post… maybe I’ll make this a weekly thing, with updates and tips, my workout routine, diet and what I eat, supplements etc. – let me if this is something you’d be interested in and if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to cover – you can TWEET ME @AmbarinaHasan or send me a message via INSTAGRAM @BeautyPassionista (or comment below).
And PLEASE let me know how you keep yourself motivated :))
Until next time…
