New season makeup trends are calling for fresh, clean skin and the no-makeup makeup look. Of course, “no makeup” really only means minimal makeup, so glowy, flawless, healthy looking skin is a must.
While Asian skin doesn’t tend to show its age through wrinkles, what does give us away in the antiageing game is hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Yes, we’re lucky that our naturally melanin-rich darker skin tones help us in terms of fine lines and skin texture but don’t be fooled: hyper-pigmentation can be just as ageing visually, not to mention distressing, depending on it’s severity. In fact, 62% of women say they are ‘concerned’ by their dark spots, especially as pigmentation issues now occur prematurely, as early as 30 years old for 30% of women.
I’ve been trying out a new antiageing cream from Phytomer, Pionnière XMF White, that primarily concentrates on reducing these indicators of skin-ageing, focussing on uneven skin tone, dark spots and wrinkles too for good measure. Billed as a ‘skin translucency cream’, it targets hyperpigmentation with 2 exclusive biotech marine sugars developed in the Phytomer laboratories that act against dark spots and wrinkles. Don’t be misled by the word ‘white’ in the name; it’s neither a skin whitening or lightening cream; think of it more as a skin brightening cream.
Lack of SPF as a young girl (naughty naughty!) has led to a few sun spots, mostly on my nose and upper cheek area, and while I could fool myself that it’s just a few freckles, I’m skin-savvy enough to know otherwise. And, as is quite the norm for Indian skin, I have some uneven skin tone, especially around the mouth area. So I was really keen to put it to the test to see if their results of a more even skin tone in just 1 month could work for me.
The science behind the brand is ultra impressive (the Phytomer laboratories have been the leader in marine biotechnology and skincare for the last 40 years) and they’ve put all their know-how into this unassuming little white pot of cream. EPS WHITECH, with its specific sugar composition, blocks the production and transfer of melanin to the skin’s surface, meaning the formation of new lifyestyle-related dark spots is dramatically reduced. It also reduces the the amount of existing melanin in the skin, meaning that existing pigmentation spots minimised. This wonder ingredient also inhibits the production of melanin attributable to UV exposure, so new sunspots aren’t going to appear either. It also reduces the synthesis of melanin that’s induced by pollution and daily aggressors too, so it’s like a 360-degree attack on dark spots, hyper pigmentation and wrinkles. The polysaccharides work to visibly smooth out wrinkles within minutes (although this is a temporary effect that lasts as long as the cream is on your skin), but it also stimulates the skin’s own production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid to create a firmer skin tone, reducing the appearance of wrinkles on a long-term basis.
After using the cream twice a day for six weeks now, I can honestly say I can see all these changes in my skin. On weekends, you’ll more than likely see me not wearing any foundation at all (of course, a little concealer under the eyes is always necessary!), as my skin is now glowing, radiant and so healthy looking. The ‘freckles’ on my nose that I’d always cover with concealer are fainter and need no real camouflage on a daily basis. The slightly darker skin around my mouth has complete evened out – I can really see the difference when I wear a red lipstick. When I’m wearing the cream, I can feel my skin feel tighter and plumper; I could swear it almost looks like my cheekbones have lifted and the radiance makes it look like I’m wearing a cheekbone highlighter even when I’m not! My skin has the lustre and radiance of pearls, without the need for any strobing creams. I’ve had more compliments on my skin in the last three weeks than I can remember. Best of all, the time it takes to do my everyday makeup has dramatically reduced as I don’t feel the need to cover my skin in any sort of all-over base makeup on a daily basis. Trust me, that makes such a huge difference first thing in the morning when you’re rushing out the door but trying to look half-way decent to do the school run!
Although the cream makes no claims to treat the skin in terms of breakouts, I have noticed that it’s made my skin calmer and there’ve been none of the monthly regular breakouts (you know what I’m talking about)!
So here’s the dreaded before and after (in both photos, I’m wearing mascara and lip balm, but there’s nothing on my skin except for the Pionnière XMF cream):
This is cutting-edge science skincare and is priced accordingly, meant for those who take their skincare seriously or need to address certain issues. Would I pay £128 for it? Absolutely. The time it’s saved me in terms of actually doing my makeup and the visible difference it’s made to my skin is worth it alone. There’s nothing as vital as clear, smooth, radiant skin, no matter what your makeup routine is. And for those with Asian skin tones that specifically suffer from pigmentation and uneven skintone this could well be the answer to their prayers; a solution to their woes, without turning to lasers and other potentially skin-damaging procedures and treatments.
If you suffer from skin pigmentation issues, I’d love to hear from you – email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or leave a comment below so we can all get in on the discussion. And let me know too if you plan on trying Phytomer’s Pionnière XMF White – I’ve recommended it to my mum, which just shows how much I love it.
