It’s been quite a while since my last weight loss update, mainly because there’s been none. Weight loss, that is. What with the children off school for the summer ( 9 whole weeks and yes, I counted every one!) and then my mother in hospital for 6 weeks, eating well and exercising has sadly gone by the wayside. But with my birthday looming on the horizon (well, three months away, but these things take time), it’s time to take control and get back in the zone.
My husband is a fiend in the gym, and I don’t say that lightly. What he doesn’t know about fitness and nutrition isn’t worth knowing, so he’s effectively my trainer and nutritionist for the foreseeable future. He writes my workout plans, analyses my food intake and protein/carb/fat breakdown and is my guide through the weight loss path I’m now on.
It doesn’t hurt to have a few helpers along the way, so I thought I’d share with you just some of the products I’m using to keep me on track. I’ll do it over two posts so as not to overload with information.
I’m currently on a 50/30/20 protein/carbs/fats ratio for a short period of time but there are times, even with my unusually unsweet tooth that I need a little something in the evening. Heres where the USN Protein Mousse comes to the rescue. Just one scoop mixed well with water gives me a high protein dessert at only 107 calories, but with 15g of protein and a healthy dose of amino acids to help maintain muscle mass whilst training, it’s the perfect evening snack without ruining my eating plan. I do have to be aware that there are 10g of carbs per serving, but it’s definitely better than tucking into a bowl of ice-cream!
Although I’m being put through my paces at the gym, there’s always that niggling feeling that I could have done more, especially when it comes to ab exercises. I’ll admit I always leave the abs to the last, and by that time I’m either exhausted or have literally run out of time; either way, I’m pretty sure I’m not working those muscles at their optimum. So the new Slendertone Connect Abs is a godsend. I’m just doing a 30 minute session five days a week to work my abs a little bit more than I do in the gym and the beauty of it is, I can fit into my day without having to find extra time – while I’m cooking, reading, doing the school run, even while I’m typing this blog post right now! It’s all connected up to a nifty little smartphone app that allows me to control and track my workouts and even sets a reminder so that I don’t forget. Each 30 minute session is the equivalent of 200 crunches done properly. I used to poo-poo the whole concept, but after the first session, let me tell you, my abs were killing me the next day. I’m totally converted to this way to working out my abs (I’m using it in addition to my gym workout, not instead of) and I’ve seriously got high hopes for a toned core by my next birthday. (Pssst, I’m still using my Slendertone Face too, so I’ll be looking ten years younger when I turn another year older!)
#AbWatch is on! make sure to follow me on Twitter (@AmbarinaHasan) and snapchat (Ambarina.Hasan) for regular updates, and I’ll make sure to post on here again with an update in due course.
