When you get to a “certain age” or close to it, it’s time to up your the skin care game. The signs are all there. Skin takes longer to recover from a late night out (as do I!) and it can just tend to look a little lacklustre and, well, just dull. Pores are more visible, the face looks a little ‘less toned”, the fine lines are coming up to say ‘Hi!”… you know what I’m talking about.
So I thought I write about the three skincare bits that I’m loving right now. Each one of these is a pleasure to use (so important in my opinion), and really, really works. I mean, really.
You’ll definitely have seen all the hype about the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil, and after having used it for a couple of months now, I’m a disciple. In fact, I could even see a difference after just one use, but the cumulative effects are so superior to just about anything else in my skincare arsenal right now that I wouldn’t be without it. Applied at night as my night treatment, I wake up with radiant, noticeably brighter, smoother looking skin in just one application. Two weeks into using it and I can feel that my skin is super smooth and slightly plumper too. Don’t be put off by the deep blue colour of the oil; once applied, there absolutely no colour on the skin. It’s packed full of Blue Tansy (hence the colour) and retinol that works hard to make my skin look younger and more alive. I love face oils anyway, and have used them as part of my night-time skincare routine for ages. Luna is so hydrating and nourishing that you don’t need a night cream on top of it; I just apply it to clean dry skin and wake up a little bit more beautiful.
As the rate of skin cell renewal slows down, it’s important to give it a little helping hand to get rid of the dead skin cells that can make even the most expensive of makeup look cakey. So as part of my regular routine, I’ve been used an acid toner after cleansing and the one I’ve been loving (and nearly finished!) is the Biologique Recherche P50 (which I buy from EF Medispa). Don’t be scared by the word “acid”, think of it more as a super-charged exfoliating toner that will allow all your expensive serums and creams to get to where they need to go, rather that sitting atop the dead skin cells clogging your pores. I just dampen a cotton wool pad with a few drops and sweep it over my face, taking care to avoid the delicate eye and lip areas.
Using the combination of the P50 and the Luna together have really taken my skin to the next level. A slight obsession with this pairing may well be occurring.
Last but not least, I’m a great fan of a regular granular exfoliation – there’s something about the gentle circular massaging motion that I find strangely comforting. I can’t stand large or abrasive granules, so I always look for the smallest and smoothest versions. I’ve now finished my Zelens Micro-Refiner Bi-Active Exfoliator, (which I loved, by the way!), so the current one on rotation is the Oskia Micro Exfoliating Balm and I think I’m in love. I actually look forward to exfoliating with this luxurious, creamy balm made up of sweet almond oil, sesame seed and Kakui (which I love the scent of) with the minutest of MSM and silica granules.
The triple whammy of the addition of these into my skincare routine has really made a visible difference to my skin. What are your skincare game changers?
