You’d think with over a dozen foundations (and counting) currently hanging out on my vanity, I’d have more than enough to choose from when getting ready. But when two brands like Dior and Zelens launch new foundations, you don’t argue – you get on with it and try them out.
Diorskin Star Foundation has been lauded for it’s skin-like finish and with good reason. Just a quick trial in my local Boots and I was hooked – I went home with little sample pots and was back there the very next day to buy my bottles. I say bottles because sadly there isn’t a shade that suits me – it’s the age-old story for darker skinned girls – I have to mix two shades. An expensive addiction, but when I saw the skin finish, I knew it was going to be worth it. Skin is hydrated and youthful looking. It’s got perfect coverage whether applied with a brush or a Beauty Blender (I tend to opt for the latter), and although my skin is radiant, there’s no annoying shimmer – it’s just a very beautiful glow. Although this is one of the new technology lighter foundations, there’s more than enough coverage – minor blemishes disappear and skin tone is completely evened out. I’m definitely preferring this to my old glowy foundation fave, YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclate. Used without a primer, the foundation lasts all day – no makeup disappearing act here – and with a primer, it’s even better. There are 12 shades to choose from – I wear an equal mix of shades 40 and 50…until they produce a shade that matches me exactly. I love this so much I going to have to do you a video tutorial using it!
Skincare is my thing (as if you hadn’t guessed) so when Zelens Skincare launched the new colour cosmetics line, I had to take notice. I’ll be writing a full post here on the whole range, but I needed to tell you about the Zelens Youth Glow Foundation pronto – mainly because I had so many compliments on my skin and makeup when I wore it. Launching with five shades in two formulations, I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting to be able to wear the foundation without mixing with a darker shade from another brand, but I’m delighted to say that Tan, the darkest of the five shades, is a beautiful match. Dr Marko Lens and his skincare range Zelens is well known for state of the art cutting edge technology and science; the new line is an extension of that. Check back for the full post soon, but suffice to say, think of this as the very best in skincare with colour added. Ten active ingredients including Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and moisturise, Shido leaf to soothe and defend the skin from free radical damage, Silanols to stimulate collagen production and diamond spheres to impart a soft focus finish effect.
But the bottom line? This a beautiful foundation, long lasting with an incredibly natural, radiant glowy finish that I’ve been reaching for even since I put it on.
Both foundations fall into in the current trend for the lighter, more natural foundation, but I’d say Dior Star has slightly more coverage and certainly more buildable. (For more coverage from Zelens, opt for Age Control Foundation). Most importantly, both these foundation will give you the perfect finish for a great looking selfie…and I know that’s secretly what you’re all looking for!
Will you be investing in either of these?
