I’ve always been a great believer in that old adage “you are what you eat” but that’s translated in recent times to “you are what pills and supplements you pop”. So I thought it’s high time I let you in on what’s currently my daily regime and why.
Gold Collagen: Depressing fact of the day is that from our 20’s, we lose 1.5% of our body’s natural collagen a year, and our busy lifestyles just accelerate this depletion rate. Key to me fighting to the signs of ageing is keeping the collagen and hyaluronic acid levels high, so I’ve been taking a daily dose of the Gold Collagen drinks to keep me plump in all the right ways! Packed full of antioxidants, vitamins, peptides and of course, collagen and hyaluronic acid, I love this as an easy, convenient and actually quite pleasurable way to feed my skin from within. I was always a little sceptical of how much difference an ingested collagen supplement could make, (the stomach enzymes are so powerful, wouldn’t they just digest and destroy the supplement before it reaches the bloodstream?), but Gold Collagen’s formula means that the collagen molecules are already so small that they need no further breaking down in the stomach so can pass directly via the blood stream to the skin cells that need it. (In fact, I’m so taken with the science behind this, I’ve made sure it’s available in my “store“).
The most recent launch, Gold Collagen Forte has been specifically developed to target the signs of ageing for women (and men!) aged 40+, so I’ve been trying both formulas, and I can honestly say I can see a difference in the radiance and plumpness of the skin, and more importantly, so can my husband – in fact, he can’t stop commenting on my skin! The bottles come in packs of ten and I’m currently on day 15 of the second round so I’ve yet to go and have a skin “reading” to see if my collagen levels have increased, but I’ll be back here with a full in depth post all about Gold Collagen with all the results!
NewGen Superfoods Plus: Before I got busy with the Gold Collagen, I was upping my daily antioxidants with this fine tasting supplement. It’s got just about everything you could possibly want to add into your diet, including 34 raw wholefood fruits, 5 billion probiotics, prebiotics, over 60 trace minerals, 5 digestive enzymes… you can see where I’m going with this. I take a sachet a day mixed into water, although it’s also very lovely whizzed up into a homemade smoothie too. Its gluten, wheat, soya, dairy, GMO, sweetener and sugar free, and is actually quite a nice way to boost the immune system as we head into the colder months. Easy tot travel with too – I’ll be taking a few sachets with me as I head over to Canada.
Perfectil Hair Skin and Nails: Regular readers will know I’m a huge fan of Viviscal, but recently, I’d run out of my supply. With no time to go shopping and a box of this kicking around at home, I decided to give this a go. Although it’s early days to see any difference, I might stick with this and see what the results are like in a few months time – I’ll report back.
Chris James Mind Body 12-Day Cleanse: The more eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed the Chris James box lurking in the corner. Extra brownie points to those of you who know I’ve already done this detox before and loved it! (You can read all about it here). So on my return from my week-long trip to Canada (more about that coming soon!) I’ll be doing the 12-Day cleanse again, as a pre-tox before the Christmas season really kicks in. Let me know if you’re doing it too – we can keep each other company on Twitter (@AmbarinaHasan).
So that’s what’s currently being added into my daily intake – of course, I’m a huge believer in getting as much of your nutritional needs as possible directly from the foods you eat, but sometimes, especially when it comes to anti-ageing, we need that “little extra”.
