Travel Diaries: Dinner on the Beach Makeup

Beach Holiday Makeup

Beach time is when you need to look at your best (just think of all those photographs that will haunt you forever) yet you don’t want to look too made up. Enter the Perfect Dinner-on-the-Beach Makeup. Think of it as the ultimate in no-makeup makeup, but of course, you and I know there’s been a whole lotta preparation to look so naturally flawless.

You’ve probably already seen my Marbella makeup edit (if you haven’t, catch up and read the post here). With only a handful of products at my disposal whilst on holiday, everyday is a variation on a theme. Some nights I struggled to get the look I hankered after, but where there’s a will there’s a way.

And this is was my way:

After thoroughly cleansing, toning and moisturising (which you can read about here), the key is to effect perfect skin – hydrated, plump, dewy (but not shiny) and above all, protected from the setting sun’s harmful rays. Enter Origins Smarty Plants CC Cream with an SPF 20 – it ticks all those boxes and has staying power too. A quick dusting of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder over the T-zone, with a touch of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder to ensure cheekbones are fully appreciated, and that’s the base done. (I tan in a second so no bronzer needed, but right here would be a good time to add in a little to your routine if you need it). A little of my Trish McEvoy blusher just made the cheekbones pop.

Eyes only need gentle defining, so tight lining is the order of the day. Using the Bobbi Brown Fine Eyeliner with the Longwear Gel in black, line the upper waterline to give the eyes and lashes extra definition; eyes appear groomed yet not visibly lined and appear longer, thicker and fuller. Mascara of course, has to be waterproof, and my current rave is the Bourjois 1 Second Volume waterproof version. Focus on the mid length and tips, without too much brush wiggle to define the lashes without overcoating them and literally just wave the mascara wand over the lower lashes if you must (I tend to stay away from the lower lashes when beach bound , but whatever works for you).

A quick lick of an SPF enriched lip balm to enhance your pout such as the Lanolips coloured lip balm (or take it up a notch as I did with a hint of a fabulous bright like By Terry’s Terrybly in Hot Cranberry if you’re feeling louder) and it’s vamos a la playa!

xXx
