If you’re anything like me, you end up “eating” a substantial amount of the lipstick you wear on a daily basis. The odd lick here, the subconscious bite there…apparently the average women “eats” between four to seven pounds of the stuff in her lifetime. Eeeuw! So it’s heartening to know that Burt’s Bees‘ new lip colour range is 100% natural.
The tastiest of the quartet has to be the dinky little Lip Shimmer. Peppermint oil gives that little tingling frisson that just peps you up whilst the Shea Butter and Fruit Seed Oil Blend is super moisturising and lip-softening. It’s a comfortable tingle, not one that has you running to wipe it off within a minute. Five new shades join the existing 6-strong line up, all named after different fruits; I have Rhubarb, a very wearable semi-sheer pinky red.
Tinted Lip Balms comes encased in a cardboard over tube – very Paul & Joe/Tarte-ish, although I’m not sure it needs the extra packaging? Maybe a little superfluous to requirements? Anyhooo… much sheerer than the Lip Shimmer, and less dense too, this just slides onto the lips with ease, for that perfect my-lips-but-better look. Hibicus, one of nine shades is a pretty sheer rosy pink that is the perfect finishing touch for that no-make up look. You don’t get a huge colour payoff, but sometimes, that’s not what you need, ya know?
The sheerest of the bunch, the Lip Shine is also the glossiest – duh! High-shine gloss, conditioning and a sheer wash of colour all without a hint of stickiness, these six-shades are a good budget-buy version of the Lancome Juicy Tubes.
For something a bit more dramatic, the newly launched Lip Gloss is your man (woman?). Vibrant colour with a pearlescent finish gently shimmering away on your lips (no glitter here), the beautifully pigmented colours (twelve in all) don’t compromise on nourishment. Jojoba, botanical oils and a light vanilla fragrance that makes me want to take a huge bite all combine to deliver moisture in spades. Wear it sheer or build up the layers for the full impact. And I’m totally in love with the the cute honeycomb around the lid. Best of all, each of the four formulas, whichever one you plump for, is 100% percent natural.
Now, I’m not advocating you tuck in to your lip balm, but if you’re ever caught short between meals, at least you know you’re safe to take a lick….
