I don’t know about you, but my skin needs more than a dash of extra help on these chilly winter days. Biting cold winds, increased central heating, and rather too much comfort eating can leave a girl feeling rather parched. Quite apart from the rehydration from the inside out (I’m aiming for 2 litres of water a day) I’m layering on the rehydrators wherever I can.
When I’m not using oils or oil-based balms, (which is very rare), I’ll cleanse with a cream cleanser, such as the divine Radical Hydrating Cleanser. There aren’t many cleansers I positively look forward to using but this one is an exception. Supremely creamy, it nourishes as it lifts off dirt and makeup and has the perfect “slip” to give yourself a mini facial-massage if you can spare the time. Don’t make the mistake of thinking of this as just another cleanser; this is premium skincare, treating your skin while you cleanse. Could this be my favourite cleanser to date? It’s definitely up there with Emma Hardie’s Moringa Cleansing Balm.
After cleansing, I’ll add another layer of moisture and hydration, in the form of a facial spritz – I have the very lovely Caroline Hirons to thank for that extra step in my skincare. I’ll soon be investing in the full sized Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist that I used on holiday (here) but until then, I’m loving the hydrating Suti Rose Water Organic Facial Toner. I can actually feel my skin plumping up as it soaks in – it’s the most wonderful feeling!
Hyaluronic acid is where it’s at when it comes to rehydrating, so listen up! The pH Advantage AM/PM Hyaluronic Infusion Moisturizing Serum is one of the best I’ve used, probably because there’s a 45% concentration of the stuff in this little bottle. I’ll use this under my moisturiser, after toning, for an extra boost of moisture to the skin that lasts all day. Not the easiest thing to get hold of, but this link here will help you out.
Radical Hydrating Cleanser & Zelens Z Matrix
Next up, its the rather marvellous Zelens Z Matrix Energy and Moisture Infusion. This glorious light salmon-pink concoction has the most delicious gel-meets-mousse consistency – it’s really unlike anything else I’ve ever tried. It delivers the most insane amount of moisture and plumping-upness (yes that is now officially a word!), without depositing any film or greasiness on the skin, leaving a perfect base for makeup. I’ve even been known to slather on an extra layer of this in the middle of a particularly dry day, but as I said, I’m rather obsessed with this one…
Last up, is YonKa Age Defense, Hydra No1, a brand you may not have heard about, but if you’re suffering from an attack of the drys, you need to seek this one out. Again with the Hyaluronic Acid for added hydration, this one also contains aloe vera, hazlenut oil, grape seeds, shea butter, all manner of vitamins, including A,C,E, F (for anti-dehydration – who knew?), and essential oils of rose, chamomile, jasmine…need I go on? This little powerhouse comes from a pioneering French skin care and aromatherapy brand that’s celebrating its sixtieth birthday this year, so while it may seem like a new name, it’s actually been around for a very long time.
There’s a few others worthy of a mention that didn’t quite make their way to the photoshoot (!) including the Yonka Hydra No1 Serum which sits on my desk alongside my laptop for dry day emergencies, and of course Hydraluron, which I’m sure you’re all already familiar with?
Anything else I should be adding into the hydrating heroes roster?
