Confession time: I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have at least two Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliners in my collection. Black Ink and Sepia Ink have been staples for as long as I’ve been wearing makeup, with Caviar Ink a relatively recent must-have that has almost usurped Sepia, but not quite.
Trawling through the stash during the annual clear-out, it became clear that I really needed to chuck out the lot and start all over again. Obviously there needed to be a restocking of the classic colours but I thought it’s really time to break out and try and few new colours.
Black Ink? No brainer. Same goes for Caviar Ink. Violet Ink and Cobalt Ink were in my original collection, but had recently dropped off the list so it was lovely to say hello to some old friends. While Sepia Ink will always hold a special place in my heart, Espresso Ink took its place in the recent haul and a new favourite which I can’t get enough of, Black Mauve Shimmer Ink – a beautiful very wearable blackish-purplish shade perfect for daytime definition without the harshness of black.
In case you haven’t tried these yet (where have you been?), let me tell you why I could never be without these. Deeply pigmented, there’s no double swiping to get the intensity of colour you see in the pot. Once on, they don’t budge, smudge or move. I’ve even been swimming in them many a time and they haven’t let me down. My favourite way to wear them? Pick a colour, line the upper lid, and then a second line, the thinnest line possible, up against the lashes, in Black Ink. Love it.
And who knows? Perhaps Sepia will find its way back into the club again. I just can’t resist.
