The Collection: Art Deco Color….By Benefit

I honestly believe I was born in the wrong decade. ‘Eighties fashion left me perplexed; ra-ra skirts and leg warmers, big hair and a stripe of blusher down the cheek – what was all that about? Really, I should have been born at the turn of the 20th century, so that I would have been in my twenties during the ‘Twenties. The fashions, the style, the elegance, the design, the architecture, the chivalry, the cars, the music, the whole lifestyle! So I’m understandably over the moon about the impending release of The Great Gatsby next month, for oh-so-many reasons. Cue a photo-heavy feature!

And with Benefit’s new Art Deco-inspired collection, I think I’ve died and gone to packaging heaven. Do you think they had me in mind when they designed it? Not only is the cardboard packaging beyond cute (yet another beauty packing box I’ll never throw away!) but the actual product packaging is divine.  It’s solid, pretty yet angular, and has all the ambitious ideology that was so key to the time it emulates. Harking back to an age when nothing was deemed impossible, building bigger, higher and better was what it was all about and life was for living, the packaging reflects the iconic building of the era. Think the Chrysler and Empire State buildings in New York and the Michelin Building, the Hoover Building and Battersea Power Station in London. And then take a look at the Ultra Plush Lip Gloss Packaging. See what I mean.

I’ve been wearing the Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows and Longwear Powder Eyeshadows for a few days now, applying them with my fingers rather than with a brush for an effortless, didn’t-try-too-hard kind of look and I’m loving them. Great colour payoff, especially with the Cream Eyeshadows, the lazy girl’s solution to a smudgy, smokey eye – just a flick of liner if you feel you need it, add a swish of mascara and you’re good to go. Ramp it up in the evening with an extra smudge on the other corner of the eyelid for a more intense look, use a fine eyeliner brush to sweep a little under the eye (smudge that out a little too) and voila! Sex-kitten evening eye with minimal fuss. Pair it with an Ultra Plush pout and a messy updo for a Sixties Bridget Bardot look!

See what I did there? Travelled four decades in a paragraph! Who says beauty won’t take you places?

xXx
