My Style: Swooning in a Sari OOTD

When I think of a sari, it’s hugely evocative and emotional for me. So many images in a split second. My mother, of course, is the strongest image, who made it a point to wear a different sari every day, never repeating the same one in a calendar year (wonder where I get my shopaholic tendencies from…?). The heroines of yesteryear Bollywood that I grew up watching. And so many more.

So whenever I wear a sari, it’s so much more than “just wearing a sari”. It’s a powerful connection with my cultural heritage. And of course, that (in my opinion) it’s probably the sexiest thing a woman can wear. I mean, think about it. Just one piece of material, embellished or not, wrapped around the body. Oh, the possibilities…..!

So at a Manish Malhotra fashion show to raise money for Angeli Foundation in the Grosvenor House Hotel recently, it seemed the most natural thing to wear a sari… I mean, what better excuse!

This is a Deepika Gahani creation that I bought in India last time I was there, which I paired with a brightly coloured pair of suede Jimmy Choos, a matching clutch and cuff from Aspinal (birthday present), with a pair of knockout earrings adorning the ears.

What do you think?
xXx
