New Year Resolutions? Not For Me, Not This Time…

I decided this year not to get all busy with making the same old resolutions. Every year, like half the country, I promise myself I’ll lose weight, eat more healthily, spend less…blah blah blah. But, like half the country, by mid-January, well, it’s not that I’ve forgotten about my well-meant resolves, rather that everyday life has taken over, and what seemed like the most important things in the world have become things that “would be nice to do” … they’ve just lost the shiny priority that they had on January 1st.

So this year, I’m keeping it simple. No more resolutions that read like a list of punishments. Thanks to the lovely Kate Shapland, my main beauty/health resolution is to “be more active”.  While I know targeted specific goals are most likely to be successful ones,  I know this rather vague one is one I can stick to and not feel like a failure when I haven’t roused myself out of bed, again, for that 6am run in the pouring rain, in the dark, in the freezing cold….. you get my drift.

No, this year, I resolve to be nicer to myself.  To give myself more time.  To concentrate on being content with what I have, not constantly hankering after more, more, more.  I’ll make time to meditate, to actually get round to doing yoga, to do more baking, wash my make-up brushes more regularly, actually luxuriate and enjoy my fragranced candles, invest more time on my skin, spend more time with family and with friends that I really want to see, basically, to be a little selfish and do the things that make me happy. If I’m less stressed and a happier person, then surely I’ll be a nicer person to be around?

Does that sound like I’m going to transform myself into a self-centred, self-obssessed monster of a being? I hope not, that’s not my intention at all. Overall, I just want to be more comfortable in my own skin and by spending more time on and with myself, I hope that I can do that without harming or hurting anyone else. And I won’t be going on a mad shopping-spree for loads of new stuff just to do all this. I’ve got loads of things (shoes, clothes, bags, beauty stuff) that’s languishing, just waiting to be used, so I’m all set for the dressing up and pampering side of things.

So I guess you could say my New Year Resolution for 2013 is make proper, quality time for the things and the people I love.

I’d love to know what you think of all this, and what, if any, your resolutions were this year, beauty or otherwise?

I think that’s kinda what my resolutions are to, to spend more time with the people I love and hopefully this will lead to more opportunities and meeting more people to add to my list of people to spend more time with…

    🙂
