Lipstick Queen – Poppy King

Seeing as I’m now 22 days into my #ALipADay (check it out HERE)  it seems only fitting I should tell you about my meeting with Poppy King, founder of Lipstick Queen.

If you haven’t heard of Lipstick Queen, it’s somewhat of a cult brand amongst lipstick aficionados.  Stuck trying to find her perfect lipstick at the tender age of 18, she went on to create her own brand of lipsticks, breaking all the beauty rules, offering deep colours in sheer fomulations and matte colours in nude – not the norm at the time at all.

Fast forward to 2012, and Poppy introduced her new shades to us during her recent visit from the States. Depending on your mood, you can buy the same shade in a light 10% pigment (Saint) or go for full coverage with 90% pigment (Sinner) – rather like being able to buy the identical pair of shoes in a higher and lower heel! Genius!

The new shades:

New for the party season – a trio aptly called “Dancing Queen” – yes, I know you’re humming it right now, just as I am!

New for Valentine’s Day is a beautifully designed book entitled The Look of Love – well, something as important as that needs forward planning!  The trio of colours are chosen to work together to replicate the special flush of love when you fall helplessly head over heels.

And with the lovely Poppy King herself:

If you get the chance to meet her next time she’s over in the UK, quite probably at a Space NK event where the full range is stocked, make sure you do – she’ll give you a  “lip reading” and prescribe the perfect shades for you.
Watch this space – I’ll be featuring my two prescribed  Lipstick Queen shades soon 🙂
