While I’d love to walk the red carpet at some uber-cool film festival with the paparazzi calling my name from all sides, it’s not something that’s going to happen any time soon. Coming a close second to this is having my hair blow-dried by one of the world’s most in-demand hairdressers, who has in fact, tended to to the locks of the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Audrey Tatou and even Marion Cotillard.
Flavien Abbas has worked in some of the most glamourous salons in the world, on some of the most glamourous women in the world and on some of the most glamourous photoshoots too. And I can truly say that when he finished my hair, I felt utterly glamourous!
Currently Flavien is the Senior Artistic Director at Harrods Urban Retreat, where he looks after some of the most demanding clientele in London. But really, for those who aren’t London-based, or wouldn’t be able to afford a blow-dry with the man himself, the big news is that Flavien has launched his own range of hair care products, with a difference.
Flavien believes (and quite rightly too) that healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp. And so after much research for the very best, purest natural ingredients, Touché by Flavien is a range of of six hair and scalp products (shampoos, conditioners and a mask) that approach hair care by scalp type rather than hair type.
The key ingredient is prickly pear oil, (also known as cactus fruit oil), a rare and very expensive oil that is so rich in fatty acids and protein that it makes Argan Oil look like a baby in nappies by comparison. Combine this with it’s very high levels of Vitamin E, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties and you can see that this is a super-oil par excellence. In fact, according to Flavien, it has just about everything you would ingest for healthy hair. There’s bucket loads of it in each of the six products, along with keratin, cashmere, sesame seed oil, goji berry and even a bit of argan oil, to ensure glossy, luscious, expensive looking hair every time. I’m a sucker for Jasmine fragrance (blame my Indian heritage) so the light scent had me sold on the range before I’d even tried it on my hair.
There are three shampoos and two conditioners which you choose according to your scalp type, and an intensive mask that’s suitable for all.
I’ve been using this products for a few weeks now and I can say, hand on heart, that I can see the difference it’s made to my hair.
While I was there, I managed to get a few top tips from Flavien:
- Don’t overdry your hair – stop once it’s dry, otherwise you’ll end up with fluffy hair.
- To get even more out of the Intensive Mask, apply it to wet hair as normal, and then heat the hair with a hairdryer for really intense conditioning, rinsing out after around fifteen minutes or so.
- Prickly Pear oil is fabulous for controlling dandruff, so this is definitely worth trying if you suffer from little while flecks on your shoulders.
Let me know if you try it out and what you think of it.
