As much as I hate the inevitable predictability of it all, January is the month that we all try to change to healthier habits, cutting out the c**p and substituting for a while with “good for you” choices.
So I’ve been trying to be good to myself with the help of Viridian’s Ultimate Beauty Pack. This ‘ethical vitamin company’ is all about providing a ‘range of supplements with the highest possible ethical standards’ while at the same time aiming to generate, through sales, significant funds for children’s and environmental charities.
So that’s two New Year’s Resolutions I can tick off in one go.
More than 40% of the range is certified organic by the Soil Association, whilst all the products are guaranteed non-GM, non-irradiated and full of 100% active ingredients. No nasty additives, colourings, artificial flavours, or added sugars. Perfect for someone turning over a new leaf i.e. me!
The ultimate beauty pack contains four things:
The Ultimate Beauty Complex: a vegetarian capsule containing a combination of vitamins, minerals, plant extracts and phytonutrients, all good for supporting the underlying structures of healthy hair, skin and nails. Everything I should be taking, in one darling little capsule – well, two a day, actually. I’ve been busy with all sorts of supplements for my hair, so I know what to look for in a blend, and this one has the required Horsetail Extract, Biotin (in a suitably high enough dosage), Zinc and loads of others ingredients to be effective.
The Ultimate Beauty Oil: completely 100% organic, this is a delicious blend of 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, (EFAs), including GLA. So all my Omegas in one go. I’ve been drinking it off the spoon, but you can also use it in salad dressings or mix it into smoothies if you’re not as hard-core as me. (I’m used to taking Udo’s and pure flaxseed oil, so this was a walk in the park)! Ingredients include Golden Flaxseed, Hemp Seed, Avocado, Evening Primrose and Pumpkin Seed oils, all of which are organic.
The Ultimate Beauty Skin Topical Repair Oil: delicate yet powerful, this is packed full of oils such as Rosehip Fruit, Jojoba Seed, Borage Seed, Wheatgerm and Vitamin E, amongst others. All except the Vitamin E are fully organic. It literally just soaks into the skin, feels incredibly nourishing and smells divine, thanks to the inclusion of the Calendula Flower and Lavandula Angustifola (Lavender, to you and me!) oils.
What you don’t see on the packaging is the utterly fabulous little 40-page booklet that comes with it.
At first glance I thought, “Oh yes, a sales tool to make me buy more from the Viridian range”.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
This little booklet is a mine of information, well written, with lots of little nuggets about what you need to do to ensure healthy skin, hair and nails. What to eat, which supplements, vitamins and minerals are essential, which foods are best to eat and even recipes that incorporate some of these and are so easy to make.

The Collection costs £34 and you can get it from the Viridian website here, although if you shop around online, you can find it for around £7 cheaper. Given the quality of the ingredients and the fact that it is all conveniently put together for you so that you don’t have to be rummaging through the indecipherable shelves in the health food store, I’d say this is pretty good value for money.
