The Holiday Blogroll of Shame

Well, I had hoped to post this while I was on holiday, but with less-than-no access to wi-fi (why doesn’t everywhere in the civilised world have free wifi?!), it was nigh-on impossible to get my usual online shopping fix, much less blog away to my heart’s content.

So I write this having returned from holiday, back in rainy London, but that doesn’t make it any easier, or less incriminating.  On the contrary, in fact, as I now have to fess up to how much I took AND how little I actually used.  And if we’re really telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but, I’ll even admit to how much make-up I bought while I was out there.

OK, I know, I’m ill, deranged and slightly in love with all things cosmetic (surgery excluded!).  But it’s a damn sight cheaper than all the shoes I buy (I’ve told my daughter my shoe collection is her inheritance!).

But I digress… thought I’d be able to escape the confession, but no more waffling.

Deep breath, here goes:

First off, Foundation and Concealer etc
Why do I think I’ll a) need foundation and b) be bothered to wear it in the heat of Southern spain?  Foundation by Bare Escentuals, concealers by Bobby Brown and Chantecaille.  And I KNEW the body shimmer, by Smashbox, was the wrong shade for me, but I still packed it.

Please imagine me hanging my head in shame.  I mean, 8 eyeshadows??? Really?  All by Bare Escentuals, except the blingtone which is of course by myface.

OK not feeling so gulity here, a couple of the Longwear Gel eyeliners by Bobby Brown and a waterproof one by Smashbox, although I do use some of the shadows as liners too. (But you’ll allow me not to count those, right?)

Didn’t want to be left without mascara, that’s the only way to explain three mascaras in the make-up bag, and another bought at duty-free at Heathrow!  I took Phenomenal by Givenchy, Flawless Definition by Bare Minerals and Waterproof Telescopic by L’Oreal.  Just had to by the waterproof one by Chanel, but it smudged too much.

Not too bad, eh? One cream by Smashbox, one powder by Bare Escentuals.

I was sooo proud of myself, only brought three lispticks with me. Whoop whoop!  Not so proud of the red lipliner though.  What was I thinking? Lipsticks by Mally and Colorsport, lipliner by Guerlain.

Moment of weakness again here – but you know what it’s like – a gloss on on the table in the hall catches your eye and it’s so easy to throw it into your bag as you rush (late!) to the airport. No? Just me then, I guess.  Shame there’s no real variation in the shades I packed! Three Buxoms, one by Mally and one by Jemma Kidd.

Manicure Stuff
I didn’t get a chance to photograph these, but let’s just say the whole lot needed a separate, considerably sized cosmetic bag to house it all! Various brands inlcuding Nails Inc, Leighton Denny, Essie and OPI.

Well I had to have something to slap it all on with, didn’t I? Various ones by Bare Escentuals, Bobbi Brown and Chanel.

And then there had to be all the lotions, potions and magical creams and sprays that I couldn’t do without! A selection (but not exhaustive!) for your delectation:

And what did I actually use?  About 7%of it… I’m far too embarrassed to list the very few items that DID actually make it out of the make-up bags.

What I bought while I was out there:
Let me qualify this.  In my defence, I was researching and writing an article about the new season’s colours for another website, (I’ll post the link here when that article goes live), so I was totally immersed in all the new goodies out there.  So you see, when you look at it from that point of view, I was actually a very good girl, wasn’t I?  I will post photos and reviews later, but managed to get my mitts on TWO bottles of Paradoxal by Chanel, plus the eyeshadow quartet, the single eyeshadows, a lipliner from the new collection by Mac, the nude eyeliner from Chanel, a palette by Two Faced…..

And if you think all this is horrific (and OK, yes I agree with you, it IS the stuff of nightmares), you should what I what else I was going to bring and then didn’t…!

PS Dear Hubby, if you’re reading this, I hope it’s making you laugh.  It’s the least I could do for all the headache I gave you while trying to pack three big make-up bags into our suitcase!

I can totally empathise with you it. I do exactly the same. I get into a blind panic that I don’t want to leave anything out just in case I might need it.

You could count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times I’ve used a certain blush in the past six months but if I’m going away, I’ll be damned it it’s not in my case.

When I was younger and I used to go and stay with my glamourous aunty for the summer holidays, me and my cousins would pack a massive suitcase for ONE WEEK. I used to take about 12 pairs of jeans, 30 tops, 10 pairs of shoes and I’d end up wearing 4 pairs of jeans and about 9 of the tops.

I don’t know why women seem to have this compulsion to pack everything they just might need, I’ve been doing it since I was 12 and it shows no signs of slowing down at all.

OMG! You and I were separated at birth! This time, my husband made take pictures at the end of the holiday to show how much I brought out (clothes and make-up!!) and how little was actually used!

I don’t care! It’s a security blanket I’m not prepared to give up… you’re so right – it’s a matter of “just in case I might need it”.

I’ve got a weekend away coming up with the girls – probably away for no more than 52 hours, but you can bet I’ll have at least three bags of make-up and hair stuff with me!!

    It’s a girl’s right, don’t you think?

This is what I call organised and prepared for every possible eventuality and there’s nothing wrong with that. You are being proactive and showing foresight! Men would never understand this, my boyfriend certainly doesn’t. So what if you all use a little of it? as you say its a girls right…lol!

I’d pack as much as you in a heart beat! It wouldn’t even cross my mind that I have to scale back….the entire bathroom cabinet goes in the suitcase…..

You have the best husband in the world. Not only did he carry it all the way over to Puerto Banus (and back!) but he also even took pictures of it.

Fleur (my 9-year old daughter, for the other make-up addicts, apart from beauty passionista here) had to get new clothes. When I was looking at it all, I found her in the shoe section and she was trying on every single pair. She even asked me if it was possible NOT to buy any clothes and just get ALL the shoes.

I guess it is baked into a girl/woman’s genes that shoes, handbags and make-up are what makes your heart beat a lot quicker.

Somehow I’ll never get it but at least that’s logical as I’m not a woman…

Have fun Beauty Passionista; let me know if you need special make ups from the airport!

    on the spot !!
You are so right Beauty Passionista …….The “make up bags”are truly embarrasing …especially when we are stuffing them in the suitcases !

@Bella Queen – we are totally on the same page… it’s just normal behaviour!

@Gregory Torfs – Gotta love her! Maybe when I painted her nails (by Nails Inc, shade Montagu Place, in case she asks!) some of my influence took hold? Because you know, if you think I’m addicted to this make-up nonsense, you should see the shoe collection….!

@Ash – I tend to try and get them into the suitcase once Mr BP has packed it… and I stuff them UNDER the clothes so he doesn’t see them untill I unpack at the other end… trust me, it works!
